The bathroom was average but it took ten minutes to get hot water - and we didn’t learn this until the last morning 🥶
The hotel grounds were pretty and the staff was super attentive. Unfortunately we barely saw it in daylight because we weee up and out at 5:30 am and returned around 6 pm since it was located 2 hours from each birding hot spot in two different directions.
Oh, and this one confused us considerably! Of course you clean the room in our absence! Are we supposed to stay there and supervise? 🙄 It got done eventually when we cleared that up.
Now, Mike has briefly mentioned the roads. Let me just add HORRIFIC! I tried to get photos of some of the signs but when you’re speeding past them at 50 miles an hour and they are postage stamp sized, it’s hard to capture, but here is a sampling:
Road Damaged
Drive cautiously
Slip zone ahead
Sinking zone - this one I liked a lot. There were several on the first day I swear. Then when I decided to get a photo, they were gone. I think they sunk into the Teesta River. At least we didn’t!
No guard rail in spots; just a flimsy piece of ribbon!
Rock falling zone
drive cautiously
I lost count of the number of near head on collisions we almost had. The state highway 10 which ran along the river made the mountainous winding roads seem like a cake walk in comparison.
We are at the airport now waiting for our connecting flight to Kochi for the rest of India to the south - so once again we survived. And I did say upon seeing the Mrs. Goulds sunbird “this was worth the whole trip.” But I’m definitely not coming back.
